Guy de Blonay has been appointed co-manager of the Jupiter Financial Opportunities fund alongside Phillip Gibbs. De Blonay rejoined Jupiter Asset Management in January 2010 from Henderson New Star, where he was the lead manager for New Star Global Financials fund from December 2001 to October 2009. Prior to joining New Star Asset Management de Blonay spent six years at Jupiter.
We briefly awarded Guy de Blonay’s New Star Global Financials fund a four star rating in September 2009 prior to his departure to Jupiter. Previously de Blonay’s fund performed better in rising markets, while Gibbs had a more flexible mandate in his hands to protect the downside. We feel that de Blonay’s experience in the sector will benefit the Jupiter Financial Opportunities fund, although we have yet to see how the team will work together.
