Melchior Japan Opportunities - Downgraded by Mark Lane

Melchior Japan Opportunities is a small cap Japanese equity fund run by an experienced manager Ken Nishizawa. He has been managing Japanese Equities since 1994 and has run this fund since its launch in 2003.

The manager invests almost exclusively in small cap stocks and performance is therefore very volatile. In periods when Japanese equities have performed well for a sustained period this fund has produced substantial absolute returns for investors, however these periods have been too infrequent and Nishizawa’s three and five year track record is poor.

The rating on the fund has therefore been reduced to 1 star. Investors are advised to consider JPM Japan if they wish to gain exposure to small cap Japanese stocks.
