Scottish Widows Opportunities and Progressive Funds- downgraded
By MARCEL PORCHERON 16/01/2006
The series of Scottish Widows Portfolios are multi manager funds, run by Frank Russell. In 2003 the Opportunities and Progressive funds were both rated three stars by Bestinvest. This was on the back of what was seen as a competitive TER given the structure of the funds, while performance was expected to be in line with the peer group.
The Opportunities Fund has a c10% allocation to global bonds with the balance invested in international equities. The Progressive Fund has a 25% allocation to global bonds. Asset class weightings and regional equity weightings are automatically rebalanced by Frank Russell.
However, relative performance has lagged the market and sector, where the Opportunities fund is in the 78th percentile over 3 years and the Progressive is in the 90th.
