First State Greater China - Upgraded

By MARCEL PORCHERON 02/08/2007

First State Greater China - Upgraded by Marcel Porcheron
The Greater China fund invests in the equities of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The fund is run by First State’s China specialist, Martin Lau, who now has in excess of a nine year identifiable track record of investing in Chinese equities. Our upgrade to Lau’s fund reflects the considerable expertise he has built up in the region’s equities, the strength and depth of First State’s Asian team and our conviction in Lau to add value over the longer term. However, in light of the recent strength in China’s equity markets we would emphasise that our upgrade reflects our conviction in Lau to add value to the index return over the long term and does not reflect a short term view of the market.
