Aberdeen Ethical World- New Rating
By MARCEL PORCHERON 21/02/2008
Aberdeen’s global equity team has three dedicated SRI analysts to assist in building and running their ethical portfolios and the global team can now demonstrate a 5.7 year track record of global ethical investing. The Aberdeen Ethical World fund is a subset of the global team’s preferred global stocks after a qualitative and quantitative appraisal of these companies has been made in terms of broad ethical considerations. The team make use of both positive and negative screening criteria although some companies, such as those involved with animal testing, are automatically screened out. This screening will tend to lead to a bias away from the healthcare, oil & gas and materials sectors. Investors should consider the Ethical World portfolio as mid to dark green in ethical terms. We have also rated the offshore version of the fund, the Responsible World Equity fund, which operates more flexible SRI criteria and follows a policy of positive engagement with investee companies. As at result it is characterised as mid green. We have awarded both funds 3 stars.
