Barnfather to manage Lazard European Alpha
Lazard have announced that Aaron Barnfather is to manage their European Alpha fund with effect from 3rd March. He replaces Gabrielle Boyle, who had managed the fund since 1997. Boyle is to remain at Lazard and will concentrate on running their Global and International Select strategies.
Barnfather recently joined Lazard from Mellon, where he was Director of European Equities and managed their Newton Global Higher Income and Newton Pan European funds
Recommendation
This fund initially performed strongly under Boyle’s stewardship but has suffered in recent years, even allowing for its large cap bias. In accordance with standard policy we have suspended our 2 star rating following the change of manager. Barnfather underperformed the benchmark during his tenures on both Newton Global Higher Income and Newton Pan European and hence does not currently qualify for a rating. Investors seeking a European fund with a large cap bias should consider Artemis European Growth or Cazenove European.
