Neptune European Opportunities - New Rating

By JOHN DAVEY 03/07/2009

Neptune European Opportunities - New Rating by John Davey

The Neptune European Opportunities Fund, managed by Rob Burnett, aims to generate capital growth by investing predominantly in a concentrated portfolio of 40-60 European (excluding the UK) stocks, with a view to attaining top quartile performance.

Neptune as a house have traditionally driven much of their performance through their top down views. The group, headed by Robin Geffen have 2 economists adding to their macro view. Although Rob Burnett is expected to reflect the in-house macro and global sector views, he does have full discretion over the holdings in the European Opps fund. Sector rotation, and consequently portfolio turnover, has been high and, in the majority of times, successful.

Rob Burnett recently celebrated his fourth anniversary as manager of the fund. During this period it has ranked 1st out of 85 funds in the sector, delivering a 77.1% return versus the peer group average of 19.9% over the same period.
