ZURICH UK EQUITY INCOME 2001 AL LF - Fund overview

Bestinvest rating 5 stars

Overview of ZURICH UK EQUITY INCOME 2001 AL LF

This fund follows a pragmatic approach to investment, guided by 'big picture' economic themes. At the stock level the fund benefits from a sound approach to fundamental stock picking. The aim is to deliver an above average rate of income combined with prospects for capital growth. Whilst the requirement for equity income is delivered at the portfolio level individual stocks do not have to achieve any minimal dividend yield criteria, consequently the manager may include growth ideas as part of the portfolio.

Bestinvest says

We believe Leigh Harrison has reinvigorated the Threadneedle UK Equity desk since arriving in 2010. The fund now has the benefit of an experienced and capable fund management team. They follow a pragmatic approach to investment, which is guided by macro economic themes, although at the stock level the fund benefits from a sound approach to fundamental stock picking. This is a core fund for equity income investors.

Investment process

This fund is managed in a flexible manner and benefits from an experienced UK desk, where the team of 12 individuals double up as fund managers/analysts. Although the fund is guided by the house macro themes the manager has a strong preference for fundamental stock picking and applies a flexible approach to company valuation. The in-house 'Preferred List' is an area where the manager can draw ideas from, although the list is not sacrosanct. The manager has a preference for companies with ‘solid’ management and generally steers clear of weak balance sheets. The fund includes multi cap stocks with reasonable exposure to mid and small sized companies. Overall the portfolio adopts a more balanced structure, avoiding large skews in favour of defensive or cyclical stocks.
