A single premium life assurance policy offering a fixed rate of return in either the form of capital or income. The return at maturity and income are not dependent on the performance of an asset class, so that in the event of default of the underlying asset, AIG guarantees to make the payments due. Although the policy is asset backed, the investor has no title to the underlying assets, which are held by the life fund.
