Investment process

This fund is slightly unusual, although not alone, within the peer group in that it invests specifically within the FTSE 350. Baillie Gifford feel that this allows investors to "add on" their UK Smaller Companies fund as part of an overall portfolio.
In keeping with the house style the portfolio is concentrated, all stocks within the portfolio being high conviction plays. The investment process focuses on interpreting company fundamentals as opposed to economic developments, which Baillie Gifford believe are hard to predict. The team's style is growth at the right price. This process targets companies the managers consider to offer above average growth characteristics, superior quality and no valuation penalty. In essence the team like growth but are unwilling to pay for it.
