Overview of OLD MUTUAL JAPANESE SELECT A

Les Jones, who is experienced in the Japanese market, runs this larger cap fund and has created a highly individualistic approach to investing within Japanese equities. The portfolio trades actively and does not follow a buy and hold strategy. The manager attempts to identify those themes that appear to be driving the market.

Investment process

Les Jones has developed a unique approach to investing within large cap Japanese equities. Using his prior experience as a "jobber" and head of a brokerage desk he has developed a process which encompasses macro economic inputs and flow of funds data into the Japanese market, to help determine which stocks are likely to benefit. At the stock level technical analysis is used to time buy and sell decisions, while Jones and his colleague David Varley will undertake company visits. Typically the manager favours more liquid positions because of his style, so that small cap exposure is usually limited.
