Overview of FIRST STATE GLOBAL AGRIBUSINESS I

Managed by Skye Macpherson, the long time Agriculture analyst for the First States Global Resources team, this fund aims to produce long term capital growth through investments in companies in the Agricultural supply chain that are exposed to long term demographic changes worldwide. The fund invests in companies that grow, process and transport 'soft' commodities. Although, therefore, the fund does not invest directly into commodities it is exposed to the changes in the underlying price which can be volatile.

Investment process

The fund aims to exploit a long term structural trend of demographic change throughout the world but specifically in Asia where urbanisation and increasing living standards are increasing the demand for agricultural 'soft' commodities. The manager believes that the way to exploit is is through individual companies who will benefit through either volume production growth or commodity price growth.
The manager is a long standing member of the First State Global Resources Team and has spent the entirety of her investment career specialising 'Soft' commodities, though she has not previously managed a fund. Other members of the team have and they will assist with sector positioning and risk.
The fund will invest entirely in equities and although the individual commodities are usually more volatile than companies it is still volatile asset class. Investors should be prepared for such volatility and invest over the long term.

The value of your investments and the income from them can go down as well as up, and you can get back less than you originally invested.
