This fund offers the opportunity to exploit opportunities in China and Hong Kong through a relatively concentrated portfolio of stocks with a bias slightly away from large-cap stocks that dominate many other funds. The manager is well resourced to do this, with a team of a dozen analysts based in Shanghai who are able to leverage local knowledge and meet the management of these companies that tend to have a lower level of analyst coverage.
The fund’s aim is to produce long-term capital growth by investing in companies listed in China and companies or other entities with significant assets, investments, production activities, trading or other business interests in China, or which derive a significant part of their revenue from China.
The manager also runs the Greater China fund, offshore vehicle that includes Taiwan. As a result, best ideas from Taiwan sometimes feature in this fund as off-benchmark positions as do Chinese A-shares.
