NEPTUNE EUROPEAN OPPORTUNITIES A - Fund overview

Bestinvest rating 5 stars

Overview of NEPTUNE EUROPEAN OPPORTUNITIES A

The fund aims to produce a return in excess of the benchmark FTSE Europe ex UK by investing in a portfolio of largely European equities. The manager, Rob Burnett, manages the fund with a focus on top down macro-economic views. His management style can be quite aggressive when he judges that the situation warrants such action. The fund benefits from a strong analyst team and process developed by Robin Geffen Neptune's founder and CEO.

Bestinvest says

Neptune funds in general utilise the in-house sector and economic views, a process that has been developed by the Founder and CEO of the company Robin Geffen. Burnett has full discretion over the portfolio and he has proved adept at utilising it. In particular Burnett will make significant changes to the portfolio when he considers it appropriate. This is the primary means by which he seeks to beat the benchmark rather than through stock picking. Through this process he has developed a solid track record. All Neptune funds are subject to a similar top down view, which is why we have chosen to rate only one of their funds.

Investment process

The Neptune investment philosophy focuses on where we are in the business cycle and events that may have a significant effect on markets and the sectors that are likely to benefit the most within this environment. The team is based Hammersmith in West London and each member of the team, including fund managers, is responsible for a global sector.
Companies that are examined in more detail are selected via global sector research, but are augmented by in-house financial screening and ongoing coverage. Each company is analysed and assessed on the basis of its management, operational characteristics, future business prospects and resultant financial flows.
Burnett will make important portfolio decisions during difficult periods and Burnett has a strong track record.
