Bestinvest says

A core recommendation for UK mid cap equity exposure. The fund's manager, Paul Spencer, has not only demonstrated that he is a skilled stock picker but has also shown that he is equally adept at trading the portfolio when necessary. He successfully navigated the credit crunch and rotated the portfolio into attractively valued opportunities, which benefited from the subsequent rally. Mid cap stocks tend to be more cyclical and therefore more volatile so are more suited to investors with a longer time frame.

Investment process

There are four main characteristics of investments held by the fund.
1. Investments that operate in markets with secular growth (e.g. outsourcing, elderly care, waste management, financial planning and emerging economies).
2. Investments that have scope for multiple expansion to provide a re-rating against the broader market.
3. Investments that can provide positive earnings surprises to generate an upgrade potential in forecasts.
4. Investments that have significant downside protection arising from rejected bids, cash balances or asset backing.
The manager actively screens out stocks which have weak balance sheets, are in sectors that are structurally challenged or whose management is believed to be unreliable.

The value of your investments and the income from them can go down as well as up, and you can get back less than you originally invested. Past performance or any yields quoted should not be considered reliable indicators of future returns. Before investing in funds please check the specific risk factors on the key features document or refer to our risk warning notice as some funds can be high risk or complex; they may also have risks relating to the geographical area, industry sector and/or underlying assets in which they invest.
