Price (Acc)

Yield
How much the fund is currently paying out in income to investors. It’s NOT to be confused with the overall growth of a fund – a very different thing indeed. It’s also NOT a guarantee of future pay-outs, just a snapshot. This is more what it’s not than what it is…
This fund aims to achieve attractive long term returns by investing worldwide in companies which provide technology, products or services relating to the extraction and efficient handling of raw materials, recycling of used resources and innovative alternative materials. Investment process
An investable universe has been identified, of companies (currently around 380) that offer material exposure to the manager's substitution/ technological progress philosophy, whilst also taking into account fundamental (basically GARP), qualitative and liquidity criteria. In addition, the manager utilises an ethical/ sustainable overlay as part of its house approach. Stocks fall largely into 4 clusters; 1) Basic Resources, 2) Innovative Materials, 3) Process Technologies, 4) Recycling and Disposal. Portfolio construction is a bottom up process based on gaining exposure to identified sub-themes, the current main ones being lightweight materials, automation and speciality metals/ functional materials. Each stock has a valuation range, which is the main criteria for taking profits/ buying. Specific stock weightings are a function of perceived upside potential and liquidity. The resulting portfolio has a growth bias but offers a PEG ratio (PE ratio/ anticipated earnings growth) materially lower than its MSCI World benchmark.
RobecoSAM looks for the emerging future materials and technologies that are likely to benefits from underlying economic trends. These fall largely into 4 buckets; 1) Basic Resources, 2) Innovative Materials, 3) Process Technologies, 4)Recycling and Disposal. Specific recent examples include, Carbon Fibre (increasingly used in aeroplanes including the Boeing 767), Rare Earths and 3D printing. RobecoSAM employ a sustainable overlay and they have built a proprietary database on companies in their universe focusing on ethical and sustainable issues. The resulting score is incorporated into their valuation.

About the MRI
Our unique indicator: the Bestinvest Manager Record Index (MRI) measures the likelihood that the fund manager is adding value through their decisions. It is based on their performance record over the course of their career, adjusted for the amount of risk taken. MRI is an important contributor to our fund rating system but it is also vital to take account of qualitative factors. It is also very important to select funds to form a cohesive portfolio with an appropriate overall risk level.
