Two Threadneedle funds are celebrated in our Outstanding Achievement Awards

Both the Threadneedle UK Equity Income fund and the Threadneedle High Yield Bond have the distinction of being commended in our first Outstanding Achievement Awards. The Outstanding Achievement Awards celebrate the managers of funds that have held our coveted five-star rating for five years – a five-star rating from our research team means that we have a strong conviction in the fund and we feel it is most likely to deliver for you over the longer term.

Alastair Caw, Head of UK Wholesale at Threadneedle says: "We are delighted to receive this strong industry endorsement from Tilney Bestinvest, one of the UK's leading investment and financial planning firms.  At Threadneedle our approach is designed to deliver the best fund performance for our clients across asset classes, regardless of market conditions and this accolade highlights the excellence of our investment philosophy and long-term record via two of our key strategies."

Threadneedle UK Equity Income is run by the experienced and capable management duo of Leigh Harrison and Richard Colwell with the support of an extremely well-resourced team. Leigh Harrison is an experienced manager with a strong track record in his own right, and since 2010 has benefited from the input of co-manager Colwell as well as the wider Threadneedle UK equity team. We believe Harrison has reinvigorated the Threadneedle UK Equity desk with an adrenaline ‘needle’ to the heart since arriving in 2006, and there has typically been strong performance across the board.

Harrison and Colwell have solid relationships with corporate management across different industries, which keeps them in tune with business performance and where value exists in the market. Generally the fund will tend to be more balanced relative to peer group funds which might be tilted either defensively or towards recovery.

The next Threadneedle winner is Barrie Whitman, manager of Threadneedle High Yield Bond. He has been managing money in the European high yield debt market since its beginnings in the mid to late 1990s, and the team has a solid track record of providing positive returns relative to peer group funds.

Threadneedle High Yield Bond gives core exposure to the European high yield debt markets, and its approach is to achieve a higher level of income by investing principally in higher risk corporate bonds issued by European (including UK) companies. Generally these will be denominated in sterling and euros.

The value of investments, and the income derived from them, can go down as well as up and you can get back less than you originally invested. Past performance is not a guide to future performance. Different fundscarry varying levels of risk depending on the geographical region and industry sector in which they invest. Youshould make yourself aware of these specific risks prior to investing. Bonds issued by major governments andcompanies will be more stable than those issued by emerging markets or smaller corporate issuers; in the eventof an issuer experiencing financial difficulty, there may be a risk to some or all of the capital invested. If a fundinvesting in markets is affected by currency exchange rates, the investment could both increase or decrease. Thisis not advice to invest.
