Video: The three types of stock Will James keeps an eye out for

Will James has managed the Standard Life European Equity Income fund since its launch in April 2009. He joined Standard Life in 2007 after five years at Adam Investment Management Ltd, and before entering the world of investment management he spent several years as an officer in the British Army.

Senior Research Analyst Victoria Chernykh recently welcomed James to our London office to discuss the European economic backdrop, the recent performance of his fund and James’s personal approach to investing.

In this video James gives us an insight into the active stockpicking style that has served him so well over the course of his career, including the three types of stock that he always keeps an eye out for. He goes on to tell us about Veolia – a French waste and water utility company that has performed particularly well for the fund over the past six months.

James also discusses the macroeconomic factors surrounding European equities, how his fund has dealt with or reacted to these factors, and the future prospects of European equities when compared to the rest of the world.

The value of all investments can go down as well as up and you can get back less than you originally invested. This is not advice to invest.

Past performance is not a guide to future performance.

Different funds carry varying levels of risk depending on the geographical region and industry sector in which they invest. You should make yourself aware of these specific risks prior to investing.
