The objective of the fund is to obtain capital growth by exploiting special situations principally within the UK market.
Manager Ben Whitmore is a veteran value investor having operated in the contrarian value space since early 2000s, first at Schroder Investment Management and later at Jupiter Asset Management, having joined the group in 2006.
This is a predominantly large-cap offering, with the fund having historically operated in the two lowest quintiles based on valuation. Despite value investing typically being associated with significant levels of volatility and considerable drawdowns, Whitmore’s strategy is anything but.
The product has consistently achieved significantly lower levels of volatility relative to the broader market and a cross section of managers operating in the UK value space, while having offered protection during stressed market environments in the past. Solid stock picking, controlling for factor exposures within the portfolio and opportunistic use of cash have all added considerable value over time.
In our view, the Jupiter UK Special Situations fund is the best in class in the large-cap value space within the UK. Investors seeking exposure to this part of the market will benefit from Whitmore’s multi-year experience of consistently implementing his investment process in a risk-efficient manner.
The fund has been awarded a four-star rating and will feature on our top-rated funds list – our research team’s premier selection.
