Episode overview

In 2024, voters will go to the polls in a record 77 countries. We explore how these elections will affect economies and stock markets. Some are likely to be inconsequential for global financial markets, but others could have a material long-term impact on economies and investments.

One of the most important elections for investors in 2024 takes place in the US this November when Americans vote for their next President. With the country split along ideological lines, there’s a possibility of stock market uncertainty in the run up to and after the election.

Aside from political risk driven by elections, investors will need to be wary about geopolitical events in the Middle East. We consider how supply chains and shipping routes are affected following Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea in retaliation to Israel’s invasion of Gaza.
